This holiday season I have been so inspired by the combination of earthy natural holiday decor mixed with glitzy glam decor. A fusion of greenery and glitter is what the holidays are all about, after all! As I was browsing the isles of my local craft store trying to come up with a unique gift topper, a pack of woodland critter plastic toys caught my eye. I have done a few other crafts with these little guys, but this Christmas I wanted to take it to a whole other level. Which brings me to my woodland-inspired gift toppers! This tutorial will teach you how to turn plastic toys into showstopper gift decor and twigs into gift toppers people wont want to toss.
– Mini plastic woodland animals
– Circle wood disks (about 1″ in diameter)
– White glitter or shimmer
– Craft Elmer’s glue
– Hot glue gun and hot glue
– Twigs (I went out and snipped some off my front tree. My neighbor thought I was crazy trimming my tree in December)
– Mini red and white poms in whatever size you prefer—perfect for glitzy faux berries!
Step 1: First, cover the top of your little disks in Elmer’s glue using a paintbrush. I did fairly thick coat of glue
Step 2: Cover the gluey disk in white glitter/shimmer that will make your disk look like it is covered in glittery snow! Shake off all the excess glitter and set it aside to dry for about 30 minutes.
Step 3: Next, place a dab of hot glue on the bottom of your woodland critter’s feet. Quickly, before it dries, glue the critter’s feet to the glittery side of the disk.
Step 4: Time to turn your woodland figure into a gift topper. I didn’t mess around and just used hot glue to glue the critter disks right to the top of my presents! I also hot-glued some miniature trees (from Wal-Mart) to the top of my gifts to complete the woodland look!
